Uranium production has begun at Burke Hollow, the largest uranium in-situ recovery (ISR) site in the United States, in the past decade. The estimated resource from the project, located on a 20,000-acre site, is currently 6,155,000 pounds of U3O8, the most stable form of uranium oxide.
With increased demand for clean energy, the focus is slowly shifting back to nuclear fission power plants, which can generate large amounts of electricity on demand but without any carbon emissions. Powering these plants needs a stable supply of uranium fuel, which is largely supplied by Kazakhstan to the world
The US does not feature in the top three producers of uranium fuel in the world, but to ensure energy security, it needs to build facilities to extract uranium from the reserves at its disposal.
